It feels good to be traveling again, if only for a short bit. I'm spending the next 3 days in Seoul before heading to Tokyo for the Marathon (and a presentation of Datadog).

Palace
After a quick morning reconnaissance run, I've made my way the main Palace in Seoul. A bit crowded but a nice stroll amidst replicas of the original buildings. Having costumed guards at the entrance definitely makes you feel like you're stepping into royal grounds.

The air is cold but feels refreshing. I get lost in my thoughts.

Weary of carrying a capable but heavy DSLR I have traded my Nikon D300 for a nimbler Sony NEX-5N, after having spent some time on various photography review sites, in particular the one from Luminous Landscape.

I've bit the bullet and got a refurbished 5N and the wide angle lens (16mm f/2.8). So far I'm very happy. The camera and lens combination is very fast. The "noob" mode works very well and I'm not missing the viewfinder that much. I hope to take the camera for a decent field trip later this month when I travel to Asia.

I tried another lens, a 30mm macro, which I found too slow to autofocus. Sigma has announced new e-mount lenses so we'll have to see when they come out. The Zeiss looks appealing but at roughly $1,000 I'm not sure I'm ready to buy.
